Manhattan Cruise Terminal Overview

Awarded Best US Homeport by TravelAge West magazine, New York City has been serving cruise passengers longer than any other US city. In 2004, to secure its position as a first-class passenger terminal, the City of New York began a program of $200 million in capital investment at the cruise terminals. The upgrades at Manhattan Cruise Terminal allow Pier 88 and Pier 90 to serve the world’s biggest ships. An additional $4 million investment in Passenger Boarding Bridges is being made to handle the world’s newest and largest ships.

The Manhattan Cruise Terminal is one of the most modern facilities. The new terminals included modern adjustable gangways and expanded pier aprons to load and unload passengers and supplies with greater speed, comfort, and efficiency. The redeveloped terminals also segregated embarking and disembarking passengers onto separate levels, allowing for more efficient use of passenger space and reducing congestion.

Manhattan New York Cruise General Information

Parking is conveniently located above each of the piers. Drive up the Viaduct Ramp at 55th Street to the receiving area adjacent to the cruise vessel’s berth. Passengers parking a car must enter the terminal and park prior to bringing in bags to the second level for check-in. Passengers driving are unable to drop off bags and then park without exiting the terminal.

Taxes are included in the rates. Payment is due upon arrival into the parking lot. There is no upcharge for sport utility vehicles.

Additional parking lots are located at 59th Street.

We do not accept reservations. Space is subject to availability and is provided to cruise parkers on a first come, first serve basis.
Height Restriction

8’3″ height restriction for all passenger vehicles.

The Manhattan Cruise Terminal is managed by Ports America, a private terminal management company under contract with the City’s representative agency. Ports America may be contacted at (212) 246-5450 with specific questions or concerns by passengers prior to arriving.

All cars enter the Terminal from the north at the intersection of 55th Street and 12th Avenue (State Route 9A).

    New Jersey and Points South
    From the Lincoln Tunnel, follow signs to 42nd Street, make a left onto 42nd Street, go 3 blocks and make a right onto 12th Avenue. Take 12th Avenue for a half mile and make a left on 55th street, which is the entrance to the terminal. From the Holland Tunnel, take ext 1 (9A). Pass 3 lights and make a right onto West Street (which is also 12th Avenue). Take West Street/12 Avenue one mile and make a left onto 55th Street, which is the entrance to the terminal.
    George Washington Bridge/Westchester and Points North
    Go southbound on the Henry Hudson Parkway (Route 9A), exit to the right at 55th Street, which is the entrance to the terminal.
    Long Island
    From the Queens-Midtown Tunnel, go west via 34th Street to 12th Avenue. Turn left onto 12th Avenue and continue north to the New York Cruise Terminal on 55th Street.
    Midtown Manhattan
    Take 55th Street, and cross 12th Avenue to enter the Terminal.

Embarking
Passengers arrive at the street level of the pier where their cruise vessel is berthed. Signs identifying the vessel are posted on pillars nearest the proper berth. Access the Customs Hall by using either of the two passenger elevators at the head of each pier, or use the escalator on the south side of the entrance area. Baggage will be received by porters and moved to the vessel.

Disembarking
Upon returning from the cruise, passengers will be directed to the baggage hall where baggage will have been positioned by porters. After retrieving your bags, proceed past the customs inspector for customs declaration. You may be assisted by a porter according to your preference. Returning passengers will be directed to awaiting coaches, taxis/limousines, and car parking.

Luggage Drop Off
Passengers arriving by private car should first park, and then drop off luggage on the second level for check-in. Passengers requiring parking are unable to drop off bags and then park without exiting the terminal.
Luggage Storage.

There are no storage lockers for luggage at the terminal for passengers. You will need to find an alternate facility to store luggage
